Why Cannabis Is Outpacing Alcohol in Manitoba
Alcohol remains the larger market in Manitoba, but cannabis sales are growing much faster—and that shift says a lot about changing consumer habits. As I discussed during my conversation on CJOB radio, Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries reported cannabis revenue of just over $170 million in the latest fiscal year, up approximately 10.7 per cent. Alcohol revenue was still much higher at nearly $888 million, but it increased by only about 1.6 per cent. In other words, cannabis has not surpassed alcohol in total sales, but its growth has clearly overtaken alcohol’s.
Several factors are driving this change. Legal cannabis has become easier to access, with more retail stores opening across the province. Consumers also have more product choices than ever, including flower, pre-rolls, vapes, edibles, oils and low-dose options. The legal market provides regulated products, consistent labeling and professional guidance—advantages that can make people more comfortable trying cannabis.
At the same time, many Manitobans are rethinking their relationship with alcohol. People are increasingly concerned about calories, hangovers, sleep quality and the longer-term effects associated with heavy drinking. Younger adults, in particular, appear more interested in moderation and alternatives that fit into a wellness-focused lifestyle. Nationally, alcohol volumes have been declining while legal cannabis sales continue to rise, reinforcing that this is part of a broader consumer trend.
This is also where products such as ufeelu’s wellness line fit into the conversation. Ufeelu offers THC-free CBD products, including drops, tablets and topicals, designed for consumers who want to explore non-intoxicating cannabinoid options. These products are not about encouraging intoxication; they reflect a growing interest in calm, balance and everyday wellness. ufeelu
The Manitoba market is therefore evolving—not necessarily because everyone is replacing alcohol with cannabis, but because consumers now have more choices and are making more deliberate decisions about what they use and why.
